WASET Bogus and Fake Conferences. The word CRIME is poor to describe the WASET Fake Conferences and Scam Activities. Thousand Names of Legitimate conferences have been hijacked by WASET.

WASET Crimes: Thousand Names of Legitimate conferences have been hijacked by WASET. The word CRIME is poor to describe the WASET scam Activities.

WASET an absolutely criminal organization works as follows:  They copy-paste names of legitimate conferences and create fake, spurious, counterfeit conferences with the same titles, same acronyms and same committess. They cheat the academicians when they search for a particular conference via google. Hundreds of scholars went to a fake, false conference of WASET instead of attending the genuine one (You see same titles, same committees, same acronyms, for instance in 2013 two ICANN were held, the genuine and the fake).
WASET owner, a teacher in Mathematics in secondary school is called Cemal Ardil. How can a person without Ph.D. run 3500 conferences per year.
WASET enterprize operates with this academic criminal Mr. Cemal Ardil and his daughter
( http://copluksite-fakesite.blogspot.com/2007/10/cemal-ardil-bekir-karlik-fake-academic.html  and

It is not difficult to find hundreds of hijacked conferences by WASET. What a shame.

Some Complaints that you can find on the web
Is WASET a fraud whose victims keep silent?
After a paper I submitted to the August 2010 WASET (World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology) conference in Singapore was accepted for presentation and publication,  I began to suspect that WASET is a fraud.  To my surprise,  before mid-June 2010, repeated google searches for waset resulted in no negative comments against WASET, save for one web site I could not take seriously.   I will explain later why I suspected WASET a fraud.

I decided not to pay the $450 Euros registration fee until I received an email from ale...@waset.org, stating
the Tentative SINGAPORE 2010 Conference Program is available at http://www.waset.org/programs/Singapore10.pdf
I was not impressed with the conference program.  But it changed my mind about not registering because it appeared to show some real people presenting papers.  I am a University of San Diego professor.  I submitted a paper to WASET August 2010  Singapore conference because I will be in Asia at that time.  I had invested a significant amount of time with WASET after I made a decision to submit paper to it, and made my paper conform to its required layout, format and style.   If I had made a mistake, let me bite the bullet.

As a prerequisite to register online, I needed to wire 450 Euros to an account in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.  This felt more like paying a ransom than paying for a conference.   Why couldn't WASET accept a credit card, like anyone else? Worse, my bank charged me $35 for the international wiring.

Interesting, yet most unpleasant things began to happen after I wired the 450 Euros. Here is a summary
registration for the conference at http://www.waset.org/author.php failed using whatever browser and whatever file format the registration page instructs.
To date, I sent more than fifteen requests to WASET  for help.  They ignored most of them.   When they did respond,  they wanted me to try http://www.waset.org/author.php again and again.
One response was promising.
Dear Author,
Thanks for registration! We have received your documents.
Best regards,
B. Brojack, Secretariat
Editor-in-Science
http://www.waset.org/
In this message, Brojack, Secretariat assured me that I had finally registered.  But her/his next message asked me to try http://www.waset.org/author.php again, even though I complained repeatedly that this registration page always failed with  the same error message.

Finally, I wrote B. Brojack, Secretariat of WASET, for either straightening out my registration impasse, or else refunding my 450 Euros.   No response!

To summarize, I wired 450 Euros to an account in Dubai, UAE to pay for the registration fee for a WASET conference in Singapore.  I was instructed to register for the conference online at http://www.waset.org/author.php, which always failed. I wrote WASET to request for help. They ignored me.  I asked for refund, they also ignored.

(Cemal Ardil is on a par with  another academic thug, the notorious Jeffrey Beall: Really, how can Mr. Jeffrey Beall, a simple librarian, a person without M.Sc. and without Ph.D. to evaluate more than 500 Publishers and put Publishers with  journals indexed in Web of Knowledge, ISI, DBLP, IET in in his notorious black list?)

Comments: One may not believe if such a coincidence could ever happen. I read your blog today which you posted in 2012, and it saved me 450 Euro. I think I am also fooled by WASET. I received acceptance of my abstract for the ICGSH 2013 conference held in Kualalumpur, August 22-23, 2013.http://www.waset.org/conferences/2013/kualalumpur/icgsh/. While I was corresponding with the organizers, I didn't have a clue that they were fake. They seemed professional in corresponding on emails and assisted me whenever I raised query. I was also provided with the invitation letter to the conference which served as the basis of retrieving Malaysian Visa. Before making bookings to the hotel they mentioned as a conference venue, I confirmed if this conference is happening as scheduled and the answer I received was yes. Will you believe that it was the internationally accredited hotel in Kualalumpur, Pacific Regency Hotel Suites. I booked the hotel, I got my visa, I had tickets in my hand, the only thing I was left with was the conference registration fees, which took me long to process as the procedure was difficult to carry out through Western Union. Finally, today when I decided to make the payment, God knows what made me log into the website of the conference to retrieve the details of the payment for my own reference to take it to bank. And when I typed WASET CONFERENCE 2013, the Google search engine opened up the suggested link on WASET CONFERENCE FAKE, and I don't know what made me click that option. What I found was your post. My search about the WASET being fake began from there and guess what I found these links highlighting how organized this whole scam is.

  3. I have been reading all these comments on "improbable" WASET conferences. It is a quite difficult question especially for young people looking for fair guidance. To get an idea, I have been asking 25 researchers in different fields who went to 25 different conferences in 25 different countries. They all say that organization (both scientific and technical -hotel and so on) was OK, and some indicated that they had interest in other papers in their session or in the conference. Maybe they have been all lucky, but I should add that they all are in hard sciences (mathematics, physics, mechanics). Overall I got the impression that the level may be low, and especially in borderline scientifico-politico-philosophic domains, which is far from being a great discovery.
A last point is that why, if these conferences are so dangerous for SCIENCE, only a little bunch of at most a dozain of persons are attacking them with so hard wording, knowing from other studies that they did collect at least 70000 or 80000 customers who are surprisingly so silent. I would really like to understand.

  4. Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to complain on the quality of the conference that I have attended recently in Istanbul. Overall for me, this was the worst conference that I have ever joined since becoming an academician. Poor management on tentative and facilities have caused a lot of problem during the program. On top of that, the participants are pooled from wide different background and being registered under different conference name. Therefore, the discussion become more general and presenters need to clarify the topics in details which not supposed to be.
It is undeniable that this is the low quality profit based conference organizer and attempts to easily extract the money from the conference fees. In return, the participants attended poor quality program and being given cheap printed proceeding and pouch. I am distributing this information to all colleagues and friends to ban any program organized by WASET.
    Thank you

  5. This post is intended for all researchers that want or thinking of attending the Montreal 2014 Conference organized by WASET (that is theoretically supposed to occur at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal hotel) AND to all who wish to attend future conferences held by WASET, please read below:

I submitted my abstract February 7 2014 and selected the option to have an oral presentation rather than a poster. March 6 I receive an email informing me that my paper was accepted (although they did not properly copy and paste the title of my paper) anyway, you can check the official acceptance paper.

Since the topic of my paper is on wind turbine blade optimization, I believed that by the name of the chosen conference ICSREE 2014: International Conference on Sustainable and Renewable Energy Engineering, researchers in this domain from around the world will be gathered with interesting papers and presentations.... Well, judge yourself, take a look at the Conference Program. In fact, what I noticed that there is no conference in that name, and what you will find is 4 pages
of sub-names for conferences held in Montreal, under different names. In reality, there are no separate conferences but only one, with one Conference Program gathering presentations from every possible major you can think of !!

What is the most shocking is that, several reports of spam were reported by previous attendees of conferences organized by WASET, one of them reported that once he made the money transfer to the bank (by the way you cannot pay by credit card, and have to make a money transfer to a country outside Canada), this person never received a response... basically his money was stolen. Another person reported that approaching the day of the conference thinking that it will be held in a particular hotel, he was shocked to hear that the conference has been transferred to another venue. Fortunately for me I have not made any payment or yet any hotel reservations, but these reports were frightening me and so I took the initiative to call hotel that the WASET Montreal 2014 website indicated as their venue, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. I spook with the meeting and special events manager and she clearly stated, there is no conference reserved on the 12 and 13 of May 2014. She requested that I give her all the information regarding this conference and I forwarded the flyer, website and all the letters that I received, and I am happy to report to you her answer:

    Monsieur Chehouri,

Je viens de prendre connaissance que le site waset et un "scam".
Tel que mentionné nous n'avions riend de réservé pour ce type d'événement dans notre hotel
Encore une fois, merci de ces informations précieuses

    Au plaisir,

This post is intended In other words, the site is a SPAM. This information comes from a reliable source, most probably the IT department of the hotel.

So please if you've submitted your paper to this conference (Montreal 2014 May 12, 14) under any conference name or subject, consider reviewing your decision. And if you are considering to attend a WASET conference in the future, please note that I have no intention of attacking any party or organizing committee, but as a researcher and a first year PhD student I know that hard work goes into writing a paper ad no one wants their work wasted in the end. Lastly, I would like to share with you this number 17 847. That is the number of paper that have been published from previous conference since January 2007. Now if my math is correct, that in more than 400 papers per conference assuming one conference per month since January 2007. This shows you the level of paper reviewing and its credibility (if there is any !!!).

What is your experience with WASET and what are your comments? Please SHARE this increase the awareness concerning this fraud.

  6. I am a PhD student and, unfortunately, my collegue and I have been victim of this fake conference.
We were looking for a conference about vaccines and vaccination and we decided to join the ICVV 2014 in Rome, the "International Conference of Vaccines and Vaccination" organized by Waset. When the congress program was available (only less than one week before the conference) we noticed that the list of abstracts and posters did not reflect the topics we were interested in and that were promoted in the flyer on Waset website. We tried many times to ask an explanation but, obviously, they didn't answered (the only way to contact them is by mail).
After that we looked up for other conferences organized by Waset in the same period and city. What we noticed was that there were many conferences with different names and topics planned on the same day and at the same place of the ours.
Unfortunately, we have wasted money that we would have wanted to put in our education.

  7. I too believed that these WASET Conferences and publication were decent. I attended one of them, submitted and published an abstract, and was told that I needed to submit the full article within approximately one month for publication. I did that - and this is when the difficulty started. This company has repeatedly asked for "formating" changes in the article after I had formatted it to meet their specifications. I could never get a real person within the organization to respond to my inquiries and/or explain why the formating changes that I had submitted were not what was requested. I asked one of the faculty hosts of the conference that I looked into to get in touch with WASET - he indicated that this was the first time that he had heard of any problems with publication at WASET. I then get a note through their electronic system that if I could not format the paper then I needed to withdraw it, which I refused to do since I have done nothing in this work that warrants withdrawal. So far they have refused to accept or reject this work, and I refuse to withdraw it since most withdrawn work that I am familiar with has been compromised in some way, shape or form. I sit on an editorial board for one journal and review for several others, and I have never seen these types of shenanigans in publishing previously.

My takeaway from this is to avoid this conference and publishing in this type of journal - it is very expensive, "formating" is used as an excuse to hold up publication, and there does not appear to be any Editor, Editorial Board, or other responsible party with whom you could speak directly, or who is willing to sign their names on their WASET correspondence. Perhaps there is someone out there who can comment or rebut this problem ?

I attended one of such WASET fake conferences. Organization: no parallel sessions, papers on different topics (e.g. mechanical and electricl engineering, architecture, informatics,...) were put on the same session, general paper quality not very high, no keynote lectures. Absolutely FAKE Conferences. I don't know if this is a standard for WASET, certantly it is not a standard for many other conferences that I attended in the past. My personal rating is: poor.

  9. I'm glad I checked google and stumbled on your blogpost and others before putting together an abstract due this week for a Waset genetics conference in Osaka (since I'm working in japan atm). I can't believe scam conferences exist, I guess I'm too naive!

Things that raised flags during the past weeks while I was considering going to the conference:
-I asked them 2 separate questions about abstracts and deadlines, and I got the same response (cut and paste)
-I looked at conference proceedings for a Waset genetics conference in Oslo and presentations are not even related to the field (http://www.waset.org/conference/2014/07/oslo/ICGMB/program)
-I asked my supervisor and 2 other colleagues if they had ever heard of this international conference, and they had no idea
-The same Genetics and molecular biology is held in 2 consecutive months in 2 'neighboring' cities in Japan: October in Osaka and November in Kyoto

  12. Money paid for 17847 articles is roughly 9 million euro, out of records.
Around 1.000 of them are of Turkish academics ; most of them have been sent to him
after Canakkale University (Turkey) fired him (Feb 2004) due to fraud
just after 1.5 years he started to work in a university ,
without any academic and engineering qualifications - background ,
since he is a secondary school teacher,

FAKE Dr/PhD Cemal Ardil sometimes introduces himself as if he were from Azerbaijan, and
had a PhD from National Academy of Aviation (Baku - Azerbaijan) ; Azerbaijan is 1 o a few countres
    he had never been.
But WASET has lots of clients from Azerbaijan,
some of which are Azerbaijan Science Academy members
including father-in-law of the President who has aroun 10 WASET articles.

They rarely in Turkey for years. Almost every week there are FAKE WASET conferences in
different countries. They are there. Sometime in the same time there are FAKE WASET conferences
    in 3 different countries.
While travelling the world from tens of conferences in a country to tens of in another country
Ebru Ardil had an msc diploma (Trakya University - Turkey, computer engineering, 2009) then become a phd student,
Bora Ardil had an msc diploma (Okan University - Turkey, computer engineering, 2013) then become a phd student,
Fake Dr/PhD Cemal Ardil has an e-mba diploma (Beykent University - Turkey) then become a phd student.

It is just a very small group of 2 people runnig a business of fake conferences, you will never reach them unless you, me, us and all the people that have been obfuscated go for a legal action. The man behind the fraud seems to be a certain Cemal Ardil. Cemal Ardil is swindler and crook. Cemal Ardil is not an academic person. He does not have Ph.D. and is a teacher in a secondary school. He organizes the fake WASET conferences with his daughter:

  17. I have attended a WASET 'conference'. I believe the organisers are fraudulent in their advertising of the event. The same 'conference' is advertised under several different scientific specialities, ranging from remote sensing, to genetic and molecular engineering, business, statistics etc. so people applying to attend or present are lead to believe that the conference is in their specialist field and the audience will be a collection of their peers. What actually happens is that all these specialities are clumped into the same conference!! And you are lucky if you get even one talk on the subject of the conference you actually applied for. You are given a certificate of attendance stating that you have participated in a conference about a certain subject. This is blatantly false.

I did not present. Those that did present, I thought had good quality research. However I am concerned that if state in their CV's that they have presented at a WASET conference or had their work published in the WASET journal, it could be detrimental to their careers.

The organisation was well below what I have experienced in every other conference I have attended. The computer provided did not work, presentations that were sent to be downloaded to the website were not there, and the number of speakers far outweighed the time allocated for them to speak.

    c) Lady in the Secretariat did not know English
    d) No Plenary Speakers
    e) No Scientific Committee corresponding to my conference
    f) Conference Duration was only 1 day and half
    g) Only 17 papers were presented in a total of 112 conferences. i.e. 0.1 paper per conference

  22. I just took a look at waset and in my opinion the organization is clearly fishy because:
    * All their conferences (hundrets!) share the same generic description

    * Board Members seem to be randomly drawn names from the internet - there is no way they could know their entire board staff for a conference in 2018. Further a lot of reports from involuntary board members can be found on the net (e.g. https://networks.h-net.org/node/7636/discussions/16552/alert-concerning-wasetorg)

    * They do not have chairmen.

Frightingly a quick search on google scholar shows 19000 Papers produced by Waset.

Young researchers should be aware that:

    * Their paper will most likely not get peer-reviewed (even if waset says so, but who should do this if the board is inexistent). Hence they will not receive good feedback.

    * They will not get in contact with serious senior researchers at such conferences.

    * It might have a negative influence on their career in case other researchers find their paper published by waset.

I do not doubt that people that attend their conferences have good exchange and that their journals will over time get good impact factors. This unluckily is not a quality sign, in particular since hosting huge numbers of conferences and producing papers en masse will strongly influence the impact factors that rely mainly on cross-citation between their own journals.

Moreover it is in 2 languages : Fr - Eng.

It has extra importance as the 1st one by a university on its web site against WASET ....

For years none of the universities in Turkey has done this in spite of lots of warnings sent to them.
    Moreover they have sent hundreds of academics to WASET .... conferences ;
they have sent 500.000+ euros to international bank accounts of .... Ardil family.
None of these academics has told his/her WASET .... conference story yet.
Some of these academics have gone to WASET .... conferences several tens of times and
traveled the world with .... Ardil family.

    (Note that
    “….” = “beep !”
It is a common sound used in Turkish tv’s instead of some original words.)

  27. Although my article was accepted by the Waset within 2 days after submitting, I did not pay the fee and participate in the conference, because I read several website including this page. Thank you very much everyone. But, I visited the venue to check the situation in Thailand on 18th - 19th December.

The Waset's "international conference" was held at the small floor of Amari Hotel, in which there was no guide plate and flag with conference name in the hotel including the floor. Therefore it was difficult for me to find the conference hall and reception. It was like Intentionally hidden meeting.

Finally, I confirmed the conference with a receptionist. There were several participants in the floor in front of the reception, but they went to somewhere without participation in the ongoing session.

This was first time for me to see the conference without any notice board in the venue.

I too rec'd word that all three of my papers were accepted for "International Nursing Informatics Conference" (ICNI) but due to what they say is a 'registration error' (my bank, Bank of America disagrees) they told me today I am not presenting after all. Naturally, my trip was approved by my university, my flight and hotel arranged THEN I read this line of thoughts after googling WASET. WASET has no real phone number, no email per se, no person's name (real or imagined) that I can find at the meeting site .

While at the real American Nurse Informatics Conference in Las Vegas recently, one of the key players there (for ANIA) seemed perplexed when I mentioned an international meeting in Amsterdam (my meeting, May 16 17). Said she had an office in Amsterdam and had heard of no such meeting..... The image way above for Artificial Neuro mtg is of course, identical to the images I am used to when logging in to the WASET site where communication is positively blotto/maddening. My charges for the meeting have not gone through, my upset as of this very morning is that it appears after my dreams/hopes of attending and presenting are shattered....and early this morning, I entertained going anyway as an attendee, intending to register for the meeting at the site (in Amsterdam) and 'givin' 'em hell when I get there.

Should I call the hotel to verify IF there's a meeting? If yes, should I go--I don't want to sanction this behavior if it is, indeed, a scam. What is the conclusion of those in this thread?

Antonio, I will try to reach you directly.....I will contact ANIA (American Nursing Informatics) at some point but this isn't really their affair, just to warn them. What attracted me to the "meeting" is their repeated mention of getting the paper(s) published, indeed they implied that if I had acceptance of the abstract that the article is/would be accepted...yet I later found it impossible to 'get' the instructions at the site for formatting and submitting. So, I gave up that part settling instead on presenting per se and looking for a home for the publications later, later=now.

I am schedule to leave Los Angeles May 2-this Friday vacationing in Ireland with family till evening of 15th when I leave Cork Ireland for Amsterdam, anyone?

I need help-what's "the end" of this story for anyone?

  29. A conference is scheduled for January 22 - 24, 2015 in Paris by WASET on social sciences. I have made all the necessary payments including booking flights paid for by my University. Although I read that many people could not pay by credit cards, I did. What I read here is disturbing beyond description. I am placing these comments on their website to see if they would respond.

  30. WASET Conferences must be called WASTE Conferences. Do not go.
However, many IEEE conferences are fake and crappy.
I have my own Black list of conferences and it includes the IARIA, WASET, IEEE, ACM and AIP fake and bogus Conferences

  31. I and my friends attended one of WASET conference in Tokyo in 2013 under the medical conference. At first there was nothing wrong, we paid the fee registration as normal conference. On the day of conference, they only provided 2 rooms with all background listed in the web. So basically there were only 10 presenters with the same field with mine. I delivered my topic on the first session, and you know what? it is because the chairman suggested me to do so so i can be free after that like going to the city etc. On that session, the person before me presented about computer stuff, and the one after me about something else. So we the audiences could not even ask question as we don't understand the topic. It was a silent conference, every one was like laughing. There were only 2 crew members. One is the academic, and one is the admin crew. Very simple. And one of the participant protested this situation with the academic, i did not listen thoroughly, but the point is that this man is disappointed and asked for the conference's quality.
At the end of the second day, it was very sad if i were the presenter. I stayed until the end of the session as i'd be very sad if nobody listened to my preserntation. There were only 6 people left including the chairman and the presenter. Gosh, what's this.
I'm really sorry for those who have traveled so far to attend this crap conference. However, this relieves me, as a month later or so i got a call from the bank which i transferred the registration saying that the transaction was failed. And all the money goes back to me and my friends. Such a luck. But wow, how can't they manage this.

  32. As a followup to my previous post, I have now discovered that I am listed as a committee member on dozens of WASEB conferences that I knew nothing about. The most ridiculous one is the following:

    http://waset.org/conference/2027/03/rome/ICBES/committees

Does anyone seriously believe that the people listed as committee members have agreed to participate in a conference in 2027?

Here are some more that my name appears on (It looks like I may have over committed myself this year):

ICBSE Kuala Lumpur 2016, ICBSE Kuala Lumpur 2015, ICMBE Copenhagen 2015, ICBBE Kuala Lumpur 2015, ICMBE Rome 2015, ICMBE Paris 2015, ICBET London 2015, ICMIBE Los Angeles 2015, ICMBE London 2015, ICBEST London 2015, ICBBE Kuala Lumpur 2015, ICMBE Dubai 2015, ICBBE Boston 2015, ICMIBE Dubai 2015, ICMMAE Dubai 2015, ICMIBE Osaka 2014, ICMIBE Osaka 2014, ICBBE Rome 2014

These are not just a fake conferences, it is a lot worse than that.

  33. I have sent my paper to WASET Conference in Singapore in 2014 but has not paid the fee. However, my paper was published in one of its journal without paying any fee. Later, when I realised that WASET is a fake/scam organisation, I asked them to withdrew my paper. They replied that they could not removed the paper anymore because someone has already downloaded my paper. Due to this, I cannot publish my paper elsewhere. My dilemma is:

1-There is no ISSN number for the journal that my paper was published - i.e.International Journal of Social, Management, Economics and Business Engineering. Without the ISSN number, I cannot include my paper in my CV.

2-I don't have the email address of the person in charge of WASET to ask further questions. If you have, please let me know.

  34. WASET Conferences are not appropriate for your CV and are not appropriate for vacations. They have bad quality and bad organization. In the WASET conferences every nonsense article can be accepted. They do not have rejection rate. They pass all the papers. The organizers are not academicians. They do not know how to create a conference program. They mix in the same session Theology, Computers, Anatomy, Surgery, Finances and Philosophy. They cannot separate science from bullshit. WASET are garbage events. They are good only for the organizer Mr. CEMAL ARDIL and his daugther because of the profit for their pockets. Stay away, my friends from these charlatans.

  35. Report WASET as Phishing web site on Google using the below link.
    https://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/
This is the immediate step which we all have to take to prevent this fake conference .

  37. Google search keywords: Jeffrey Beall Bribery

Beall is not a recognized authority in evaluating scholarly Journals
    Man with no credibility
Jeffrey Beall’s blog has no affiliation to any governing body or organization accredited to scholarly publishing. This is an important key element that needs to be considered when analyzing his blog. He is just a single individual writing a blog (full of nonsense) same as many others do over the internet. His blog is his personal opinion and has not been tested for its validity and as such has no authority whatsoever. Even so, Beall attempted to create a problem that does not exist. When we compare the number of open access journals around the world, Beall’s list is not significant at all. Despite that, Beall has maliciously discredited many Open access journals and demanded ransom in exchange for the removal of them from his hit list. This academic crime must end. We have added Jeffrey Beall to our list as a potential, possible, probable, predatory Blogger. Read more here: http://scholarlyoa.net/
